Pharmacies abound and have very quickly become Westernised. They sell most of the major brand names and are the only places where you can buy anything even remotely medical. For example, you will not be able to buy aspirin in a petrol station or the local general grocers.
A pharmacy or 'lekarna' in the Czech Republic really only sells medecines. A few are letting their hair down and expanding into shampoos etc., but this isn't the general rule. For nappies and other 'drugstore' bits and bobs, you have to look for a 'drogerie' or 'parfumerie' or the larger type of general store, a 'potraviny'.
24 hour lekarna usually charge a few crowns extra for their late night sales. You will probably feel that the whole place has shut down, but if you look carefully there is often a sort of hatch-window with a bell by it. Ring that and a sleepy apparition in a white coat will sell you what you need.
